The Ghetto by Donny Hatha way’s

Jazz musician is creating spontaneous art every time he or she plays music , musicians are actually spontaneous  creating a very intricate form of theme . the ghetto  where Jews were supposed to live , African Americana have a lot in common with Jews because of that. The song “Ghetto” is a socially conscious, mostly instrumental Jazz/Latin Jazz flavored anthem, released as the first single off  American soul singer Donny Hathaway’s . The song was co-written by Hathaway and Leroy Hutson. The song was a 6 minute and 50 second workout which built upon a cinematic feel with its lengthy instrumental though it did feature vocal ad-libs from Hathaway, who played electric piano on the song, and constant chants of the song, which had a distinguished Afro- Cuban sound with congas. A ghetto is a part of a city in which members of a minority  group live, especially because of social, legal, or economic pressure.The term was originally used in Venice to describe the part of the city to which Jews were restricted and segregated  . Back then when blacks were not equal , they lived in the ghetto the so whites segregated them from the blacks . That is why blacks and Jews have in common. In the song Ghetto , Donny Hathaway .

Field Day

It’s that time where the students have all been waiting for. Delaware State University field day , the suns out the weather is nice school is almost over its time to let lose. In the morning there are festivities taking place on DSU campus , games food, activities etc. Later on the evening it is just a big cookout. friends , family , colleagues are out enjoying the weather and the company. Everyone is out having a good time , the frats and sororities  are on their plots cooking on the grill the dj is playing the best hits . Students are out having a good time , good vibes just enjoying the beautiful day. Sadly during the event in the middle of the crowd there are gun shots. Three people are injured . We find out the shooter and the injured students are not DSU affiliated they are people from off campus. Its sad that DSU opens the door for outsiders to come in and enjoy the festive and they put a bad rap like this on the school. For those that don’t remember last year was almost the same mockery . Except people from off campus were out of control , someone off campus stole a police car and it got out of hand. By mindless events like that happening DSU faculty has to put a standard on the school and if things get out of control we have consequences . Which means they are to shut down all activities that are happening until school closes. Second year in a row where what we call Field day , a day we all have been waiting for gets shut down.

Say it loud I’m a Woman and Proud

The month of April is when Women role models are recognized  for the things they have done. The song Respect” is a song written and originally released by Stax recording artist Otis Redding in 1965. The song became a 1967 hit and signature song for R&B singer Aretha Franklin . The music in the two versions is significantly different, and through a few minor changes in the lyrics, the stories told by the songs have a different flavor. Redding’s version is a plea from a desperate man, who will give his woman anything she wants. He won’t care if she does him wrong, as long as he gets his due respect ,However, Franklin’s version is a declaration from a strong, confident woman, who knows that she has everything her man wants. She never does him wrong, and demands his “respect”.

“I Am Woman” is a song written by Australian-American artist Helen Reddy and singer-songwriter Ray Burton and performed by Reddy. T. A song celebrating female empowerment, it became an enduring anthem for the women’s liberation movement.The song was the biggest hit associated with the growing women’s movement, coming at the apex of the counterculture era . “I Am Woman” was released in May 1972, first entered the Hot 100 at #99 on 24 June 1972, “I Am Woman” was one of them. The composition was the result of Reddy’s search for a song that would express her growing passion for female empowerment.

Super Woman

1. Stevie Wonder “Super Woman” was one of the first songs Wonder worked on with the engineers Malcolm Cecil and RobertMargouleff, who invented theTONTO synthesizer and recorded an album with the instrument in 1971 called Tonto’s Expanding Head Band. The song is divided in two: the first part tells about Mary who tries to make her dreams of stardom come true, and the second part tells about the singer, wondering why didn’t she come back when he thought she would.By this time Steve’s life was undergoing , his marriage with Syreeta was on the rocks and thier life together was troubled and difficult.

   Edward James Kendrick best known by the stage name Eddie Kendricks, was an American singer and songwriter. He sang in a group called The Temptations who began singing background for Mary Wells. After an initial dry period, The Temptations quickly became the most successful male vocal group of the 1960s. Although technically Kendricks was first tenor in the group’s harmony, he predominately sang in a falsetto voice. Among the Temptations songs Kendricks sang lead on were “Girl You Need A Change Of Mind” . In the Temptations, Kendricks was responsible for creating most of the group’s vocal arrangements, and also served as wardrobe manager, including the now famous purple suits the group wore for one performance. In 1989, Kendrick, Ruffin, and their Temptations bandmates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Matthew Horace

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Horace at Mass Comm day. Horace majored in English from Delaware State University and a received a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Training and Development from The Seton Hall University. Matthew reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of FJC. Mr Horace also holds leadership positions in a number of professional law enforcement, security and civic organizations.  In this role he is responsible for collaborating with executives company-wide and external program consultants in designing and implementing a full-scale internal security program focused on compliance and governance, risk management and brand protection on behalf of FJC. He is responsible for the leadership of organization-wide Continuity of Operations and IT Security Programs and internal audit and investigations specific to FJC brand protection and superior service delivery. As FJC’s principle media spokesperson, he is also called upon to provide media commentary on global law enforcement and security matters for major television networks, print media and magazines and provides expertise in FJC’s public information strategy.

Mass Communication Day

Mass Communication Day , the day we all have been waiting for. For those that do not know what Mass Comm Day is about , Mass Comm Day is when Delaware State University alumni and vendors come together here at DSU and talk to us . You have the opportunity to look at vendors who are there such as; radio stations , music stations, camps , journalism etc. You have the chance to pitch yourself and see if you can get internships with in those company’s or even build a connection  and network with those people. The DSU alum do not just talk to us but they  inform and instruct us , about their experience with the major , where the major took them . They also talk about how to be successful , not to waste you years by doing nothing. Overall I loved Mass Comm Day I got to meet new people and get new connections and learned a lot about what to do next .

Spring Break

After months of preparation and copious charges on your parents’ credit card, spring break has finally arrived. You are extremely excited and cannot wait to get to your destination to go to pool parties.Spring break gives us a chance to let loose and forget all about our responsibilities. Spring Break  can be the most fun week of your academic year , it’s the time to let lose and relax from school. Some students typically go away to resorts or different states to have fun. This year a lot of students went to Miami Florida, to get out of the cold and into the sun. Others went home to enjoy family company and slept in . I slept in a lot worked out , caught up on some TV shows. I had fun enjoying my family I met up with some old friends in New York that I met about five years ago at a church convention, then went to this place called sky zone with the family ; which is a a big trampoline everywhere where its also fun but an exercise. But as we come to a close with spring break it’s back to reality . Waking back up in the morning for work and school is here and a goodbye to late nights with your friends and sleeping in.

Hello spring goodbye winter! In the winter time all I wanted to do was sleep and watch a movie. It was too cold to go out or even to the gym . But recently feeling the 50 degree weather made me want to go for a run . Now when you go to the gym , there is a bunch of people getting ready for their summer body. What is it about spring that touch peoples emotion? Weather can enhance peoples character when  the sun’s warmth on your skin, the fresh touch of the breeze as opposed to the frigid one you’ve felt all winter long . But as we get ready for the warmth we are saying goodbye to the cold. When you need a day to sleep in or catch up on work we wished for a snow day . When there was snow days we could sleep in watch movies or catch up on homework . But now we are saying goodbye. It’s funny when its winter and we say ” I can’t wait until summer” then when summer is here and it’s  too hot we then say ” I cant’t wait until winter”.

Valentines Day

The Bible speaks of different types of love. This is the type of family love that is commonly found in the Bible and is vital to the proper function of families and can sometimes be found in extended families. In this case were talking about the Valentines day love. On February 14th is the day were couples spoil their selves. Each year on February 14^th, many people exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special “valentine.” The day of romance we call Valentine’s Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5^th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia. The first notable bass guitarists of the fusion era as well as being one of the most influential jazz and soul musicians of the past 40 years.

The Dress Code

In class Dr. Taylor passed out a paper called “The Dress Code” and “Whats Your Brand” . I started reading “The Dress Code” and it discussed  some black college students embracing the business casual dress code with personal style . Marcus T. Cook has emerged dress code at historically Black colleges and universities because he already “dresses the part” in preparation for his furniture transition into the business world. The importance of making a good, last impression is vital, whether it’s scholastic , business or social. Dress codes educate and influence students on what is presentable and appropriate for different occasions.In “Whats Your Brand”  it explains how to carry yourself on and off social media , and how to be careful of your character. Whatever you put on the internet is out there for the world to see. When posting or tagging photos , watch for what people are doing in the background. Your brand for exceeds imagery. Your words are powerful as well. Social media is meant for networking to connect with others , both personally and professionally. That’s why carrying you self , dressing appropriate is important. When you go for a job interview some company will look you up check out any profiles you ever had to see what type of things you are in or have ever been in. After reading both papers it helped me think about my brand and dress code. After thinking about it I decided to make my own fashion page called “Theofficialfashiondiary” on instagram  which helps men and women all age how to style their cloths and accessories for what ever in engagement their going to.
